Even though lip glosses are very popular and can be seen everywhere, there are women who still reach for lipsticks. No wonder: lipsticks come in various types, properties and colours. The general rule is: the longer-lasting lipstick, the more it dries the lips and vice versa.
Lip balms – types and properties
Lipsticks can be divided in terms of durability:
- long-lasting lipsticks,
- waterproof lipsticks
and properties:
- lipsticks with shimmering particles,
- matte lipsticks,
- creamy lipsticks,
- moisturizing lipsticks,
- satin lipsticks,
- colourless lipsticks.
Long-lasting lipsticks last for about 4 – 6 hours, in some cases up to 8hours (provided that you do not eat fatty and oily products). These lipsticks significantly dry out the lips. To prevent this, it is best to choose products that contain moisturizing substances, such as vitamin E or aloe vera.
Waterproof lipsticks can also leave your lips dry. They are usually matte, which is why girls tend to enhance their colour with a lip gloss. They remain on the lips from 4 to 8 hours, which is why they are most often used for special occasions. Although they are resistant to water, they wash under the influence of oil-based products. The makeup removal also uses preparations with oily consistency.
Shimmery lipsticks – they reflect the light and shine gently. Usually, they come in a lightweight consistency and light shades.
Matte lipsticks owe their intense colours to the high amount of pigment, but they do not shine on the lips at all. Such products have the tendency to dry out the lips. What’s more, it is worth remembering that mature women or those who have small and narrow lips should avoid using them. Why? These lipsticks make us look older, and due to the lack of gloss, they will visually make the lips smaller-looking. Matte lipsticks are very light and leave a thin layer on the lips.
Creamy lipsticks provide nourishing and moisturising properties. They are made of weightless wax that prevents lips from drying out. Unfortunately, they are not very durable.
Moisturising lipsticks contain aloe vera and vitamin E. Thanks to these ingredients they provide the lips with proper hydration, smoothness and shine. Moisturising lipsticks do not last long on the lips.
Satin lipsticks moisturize and make the lips shiny, but they quickly wear off. Because of the fact that they have a high oil content, they appear much brighter on the lips than in the package.
Colourless lipsticks are used primarily for the care of chapped lips. They are also used by men who want to provide lips with protection from severe frost or solar radiation.
